You want a backlink from SlashDot.org because it has Domain Authority (DA) 97. And that’s out of 100. The more links from such sites you have, the higher your own site’s domain authority will go up. Other than that, it allows you to generate more traffic if you’re actively taking part in the site’s community. Now, it’s best to not just put your backlink as I showed in my screencast (see below). It makes sense to fill out your account at maximum so that it’s as complete as possible. Doing so guarantees that your account won’t be deleted for looking too spammy.

- Click Login
- Login with your Twitter account (you may need to click Authorize App)
- Go to your_username -> Account
- Click User (at the top menu)
- Specify your site’s URL in the Homepage text field
- Click Save
- And log out
- Now you should see your link
