Many new business leaders and managers think that the most important consideration for a team is how much talent they have. Unfortunately, when you have two or more stars in your team, they’ll undoubtedly start to compete for the limelight. As a result, balancing your team becomes incredibly important, and you’ll want to do your best to highlight their strengths while minimising the focus on their weaknesses.
There’s a limit to how much talent you can have on your team
Talented individuals tend to come and go. They’re always searching for something new to do and are constantly pushing themselves to greater things. Talented individuals shouldn’t be the only focus of your team, but they should receive the support they need for you to make the most of their skills and passion.
Supporting talent with other employees
Then you have the loyal employees that will stick with your company through thick and thin. Fostering a positive environment and showing that you’re an honest and trustworthy leader means they’ll stick with you for the long run. They might not be the most motivated or talented people, but they do provide excellent support for the talented rockstars of your team. You want to try and establish these employees to cover the weaknesses of the main stars of your team, but you also want to give them space to nurture their skills and grow as well.
Engagement is arguably one of the most important ways to help you create a balanced team, so we’ve added a fantastic infographic below that will give you a better understanding of how to get your team engaged.
