What is SEO and why you need it?

You know what? I’ve been thinking about one thing the other day. What if I write posts about SEO on the blog? Would you like it guys? Please leave your thoughts in comments. I guess it’s a neat idea ‘coz whoever has a blog or whatever needs to know at least the basics of SEO. Otherwise you’ll not be able to get your site off the ground. Believe me, I tried it the hard way. 🙂 Since the blog has been focusing – among other things – on WordPress, I’ll be handling my SEO-related posts with WordPress in mind. So, hang in there guys and let me know what topics you’d like me to cover. Now, onto the first post…

As you probably know, search marketing – both SEO (search engine optimization) and PPC (pay per click) – remains one of the most fast-growing and highest-paid career options around the world. That’s understandable because more and more people start using the Internet for their everyday needs. Since they do it, more and more companies are moving online and they need somebody who will help them promote their products and services online. Plus the ZMOT report from Google gives even more reasons for companies to conduct more aggressive SEO campaigns online because doing so will guarantee more conversions and consequently more customers. And who does not want that? 🙂

Google has built a huge business on search results. A slew of companies created their own businesses on the need of many individuals and companies to get high rankings in Google, which sort of pulled that demand and offer on its own back. By the way, if you manage to get a really profitable keyword in, say, top 3, you can call yourself an SEO guru. Sure thing it is better if others call you that way, but it’s a good idea to give them a hint anyway. 🙂

SEO has been a bit (or perhaps not that a bit) mysterious. For the most part it’s because neither Google nor any other major search engines (such as Bing) never disclosed the exact formula that is being used for evaluating sites and ordering them in SERPs (search engine result pages). Unfortunately, this state of things caused some issues for those who hired unethical SEOs because they can use some gray or black hat methods and at the same time they can state that it’s OK. Again, that’s possible because we don’t really know the exact formula or algorithm (SEOs often call it “algo”) that Google and the others use for assessing and ranking sites. These guys who use unethical (grey and black hat) SEO methods can even do harm to your site. So, it’s not exactly a good idea to be funds-oriented in this sort of things. Better aim for quality. It’ll help you to be on the safe side.

The SEO-related posts that will get published on WebDesy.com will be within the ethical scope of SEO. That’s because, for starters, that’s how we do business and secondly we want success for your sites. Why? That’s simple. If our advice works for you, you’ll recommend our services (hopefully) to your friends and acquaintances. And that’s exactly what we need. We need more traffic for our site. Yes, we don’t hold it back. Everybody needs money. 🙂

SEO has evolved into a huge industry with its own figureheads and rock stars. It happened within the last 4-5 years. More and more companies now start to realize that they need to hire in-house search professionals. SEO is getting mature enough to be considered a well-respected discipline among others in the web development and web design community.

Nowadays search marketing and SEO in particular is being taken into account while designing and developing a site, because it helps to prevent problems in the future once a site is deployed. And web developers and designers who know the basics of SEO have a huge advantage over those who don’t. Why? Well, that’s easy. It’s really better to build something with some idea in mind (SEO in our case) rather than fix some aspects once your site is already on the Web.

One more very crucial thing about SEO is that you should not expect immediate results from SEO campaigns because it can take from 3 to 12 months to see any outcomes from a particular campaign. So, the bottom line is that you (as an SEO) and your boss should be patient. SEO is a process-driven discipline. You need to steadily proceed with your SEO plan and take into account the most crucial changes in the Google algo.

SEO can help you get higher rankings in SERPs, which will put you ahead of the completion. And now it’s time for commenting and asking questions guys. 🙂
